This page is broken down into two main sections:
Article Searching
There are several different searches that you can do
at present, and these are aimed at making your job easier if you want to
pinpoint an Article of interest or of use to you. Click on any of the
listed search types below to see just how easy it is to do a special
search of the Article Library:
Once you have entered your search criteria and clicked
on the Search button, your matches will be shown in a list. Pick your
Article that you want to see... and click here to see what options you
have for Viewing Your Article!
Date Searching
What if... you knew when an Article was published, but
couldn't remember much else about it?
There are two data search fields: a Date From field,
and a Date To field.
If you wanted to find all Articles published after 1st
April 2000, you would enter "01/04/2000" into the Date
From field,
and click on the Search button. This would then give you a list of all
the matching Articles
in the Library.
If you wanted to find all Articles published before
15th December 2002, then you would enter "15/12/2002" into
the Date To field and click on the
Search button. This would then give you a list of all matching Articles.
Now for the clever part: if you wanted to find all Articles
published between 1st April 2000 and 15th December 2002 then set the Date
From field
to "01/04/2000" and the Date To field to "15/12/2002".
Click on the Search button, and your results will be listed.
Please note that the dates MUST be entered as DD/MM/YYYY,
where
- DD is the day of the month,
- MM is the month of the year, and
- YYYY is the year.
Author Searching
What if... you only wanted to find Articles by a particular
Author?
To do this, click on the drop-down Author list.
This will list all of the Authors who have Articles in the Article Library.
Select the Author that you are interested in,
and click on the Search button. All of the Articles by that Author will
be shown.
So if you wanted to find everything by James Lawley,
set the Author field to "James Lawley" and click on the Search button.
By default, the Author field is set
to "All Authors", which basically means "give me everything you've got
- I don't care who!". You can set the field back to this at any time
ready for another search - it's at the top of the list!
Category Searching
What if... you wanted to find all Articles related to
a particular speciality or area?
To do this, click on the drop-down Category list.
This will list all of the current Categories for the Articles in the
Article Library. Select the Category that you are interested in, and
click on the
Search
button. All of the Articles in that Category will be shown.
So if you wanted to find everything related to the "Language"
Category, set the Category field to "Language" and
click on the Search button.
By default, the Category field is set
to "All Categories", which basically means "give me everything
you've got - I don't care what it's about!". You can set the field
back to this at any time ready for another search - it's at the top of
the
list!
Keyword Searching
What if... you wanted to find all Articles containing
a certain word or phrase?
To do this, enter the word or phrase into the Find
Keyword field and click on the Search button. All Articles
containing the word(s) will be listed.
So if you wanted to find any Articles about fear, enter
"Fear" into the Find Keyword field and click on Search.
If you wanted to find Articles containing the phrase
"Grovian Metaphor" then enter this into the Find Keyword field and click
on Search.
Limitations: This search is purely a word or phrase
search. It's not Google-like, so you can't say "find Articles containing
"Grovian" OR "Metaphor" - it literally searches for the thing you entered.
Combination Searches
What if... you wanted to find a certain set of Articles
and you knew quite a bit about them?
To do this, enter information into any of the search
fields - so if you knew that the Article was by James Lawley and was
published in 2002, then you can enter the following: set the Date
From field to "01/01/2002", the Date To field
to "31/12/2002", and the Author field to
"James Lawley". Click on the Search button - up comes the results!
You can use any combination at all of the search fields
to locate your Article!
Viewing Your Articles
OK, so you've done your searching, and you've found
your matching Articles. What now? Well, how about reading them!
Next to every matching Article from your search, you
will see a blue "More" link. Click on this, and it will take you to a
special "Article Details" page. This page shows several things: information
on the Author, information on the Article, links in various forms to
the Article itself (so you can read it!), and... reviews of the Articles.
The reviews are very interesting - this is where other
readers of the Article have read it, and made comments about the Article.
If you wish, you too can add your comments about the Article - if you
found it useful, then say so! If you think there is room for improvement...
why not suggest how it may be done! The NLP Development Forum is a place
for collaborative working and discussion, so please feel free to join
in and have your say. Your voice is as important as any other, including
the Author's!
